About
Kind Coffee's story starts in 1998, when Amy Hamrick opened the Estes Park Coffee Company, roasting beans on a small 5-pound Diedrich roaster in a side room of Ed's Cantina. She was turning out custom blends and specialty drinks long before high-end coffee culture had taken root in the area.
By 2002, she rebranded as Kind Coffee, a name that reflects the company's values: certified organic and fair-trade coffee, and genuine commitment to the community. In April 2023, longtime barista and general manager Kimi Nash purchased the business, carrying forward Kind's dedication to organic sourcing, local art, area nonprofits, and environmental causes like 1% For the Planet.
The cafe opens at 6:30 a.m. daily, making it the perfect first stop before hitting the Lake Estes Trail or heading into Rocky Mountain National Park ahead of the crowds.
Vibe
The cafe sits in a small strip of businesses painted in earthy green, right next to River Walk Park with the Big Thompson River flowing past the back. Inside, wooden accents, large windows, and local artwork fill a cozy ordering area with two-top tables and an adjoining room with booths. Outside, the riverside patio is a peaceful spot to sip your coffee while the river moves past.
Menu & Drinks
The breakfast burrito is a crowd favorite, available with chorizo, bacon, or veggies. Oatmeal comes in two builds: the Mechanic (granola, cranberries, seeds) and the Trailhead (brown sugar, raisins, almonds), or you can create your own. Toasted sandwiches on bagels or croissants round out the food menu, along with ice cream for warm afternoons.
On the drinks side, organic drip roasts, hot chocolate, and teas cover all ages. The Alpine Miele Latte is worth ordering: espresso with cinnamon, honey, and vanilla. For something cold, the Nitro Cold Brew is smooth and bold. Lemonades, Italian sodas, and milkshakes are also on offer.
